Literature Text

The racism stopping me in my tracks
As I walk through the white land
The anger overwhelms me
As I continue on

Screaming, yelling and shouting
Discrimitory remarks
They hurt, but I try to ignore it
How can you ignore something that occurs everyday?
I still continue on

They throw sticks and rocks
Many hit and cut me
I don’t look back
I continue on

Just as I’m about to snap
A kind white hand reaches to me
My black hand holds on
We are one
I now know there is love in the world
But, the racism continues on

We walk and talk and play together
We push our way through the hatred
We move forward together
Through the discrimination
Through the racism
Through the hate
And now,
Through the free land
WE continue on
I wrote this poem 4 the MLK poetry contest in 8th grade and i won 2nd =D
